What this tool actually does

Control dynamic range in the browser with the compressor parameters the tool actually exposes.

The threshold decides the level where compression begins: thresholdDb accepts -100 to 0 dB and the effect defaults to -24 dB.

The ratio controls how much the signal above the threshold is reduced, from 1:1 up to 20:1, with 4:1 as the default.

Attack is the time the compressor takes to react: attackSec accepts 0 to 1 second and defaults to 10 ms.

Release is the time it takes to return to the original level: releaseSec accepts 0 to 1 second and defaults to 150 ms.

The knee softens the entry into compression around the threshold: kneeDb accepts 0 to 40 dB and defaults to 10 dB.

Makeup gain restores the level lost to compression through its own gain node: makeupGainDb accepts -12 to +24 dB, defaults to +2 dB, and the effect also exposes inputGainDb and mixPct.

The panel derives a smoothed gain-reduction figure from the active parameters and draws a transfer curve of input versus output, a Gain Reduction (GR) meter and an output level meter.

The compressed result is exported as WAV, MP3 or AIFF by re-rendering the graph offline and downloading the file in the browser.

Real-world use cases

What people actually solve with this converter before they play live.

Prepare tracks before a DJ set.

Fix or process files without opening a full DAW.

Keep the workflow focused on the specific task instead of a general-purpose editor.
